Some families that are struggling to make ends meet may be eligible for financial assistance with things like rent or utility bills. This assistance is combined with Family Self-Sufficiency, which is a program that helps families get back on their feet. Those who are about to be evicted often get priority, as well as those who are currently homeless. Those who will receive priority for financial support are seniors, children, and the disabled.
The client and case manager will work together to assess the client’s needs and develop a plan to address those needs. You will work together to explore educational opportunities, develop and stick to a budget, get job training, and find good jobs in Florida. People participating in the FSSP will have specific goals set for them as part of their self-sufficiency plan. There will be regular check-ins to see how they are progressing.
Project Achieve includes additional job training and education. This organization provides ESOL-English as a Second Language, Citizenship Classes, VITA – Income Tax Assistance, Computer Job Search, Transportation and Engine Repair, and emergency financial aid to its clients. The government is focusing on helping people get job training and find jobs, as well as helping farm workers. This program is run in close partner with the federal government and state of Florida.
