There are a number of Neighborhood Centers located across the city and Travis County that are affiliated with the Austin Health and Human Services Department. The locations provide services to low and moderate income individuals in the form of community action programs.

The city has a program to help people who are in danger of being homeless or are already homeless. The program provides services to help people become self-sufficient and take responsibility for their lives. The Neighborhood Centers work with non-profit organizations in Travis County to provide a comprehensive approach to helping homeless people gain stability. Services offered include rent or housing assistance. Housing solutions require a coordinated, team-based approach that builds on existing resources to address deficiencies in other county services.

The Austin Resource Center for the Homeless is a place where people can go to get help and find a place to stay. The location has an emergency shelter to men and provides other basic needs. The location may have healthcare, phone and messaging centers, showers, meals, food, and laundry. Guests also get access to community action programs such as finding a job, help with problems and free legal assistance.

The Women and Children’s Center is a part of the Salvation Army. The shelter offers a place to stay, help with getting government benefits, job training, and classes to get a GED or learn English.

The Travis County and City of Austin offer an affordable emergency child care program for families with low incomes and the working poor. The Workforce Solutions Child Care Services (CCS) and the Health and Human Services Department operate this program. This means that families who are eligible for financial assistance can use vouchers to help pay for day care at participating providers. The subsidies will help with the cost of child care while the parent is working or in school.

The federal government provides supplemental nutrition and food assistance to pregnant women through the Women, Infants and Children (WIC) program. If you are a new mother or have young children and are struggling financially, there is help available in the form of aid. The program provides benefits to buy healthy foods, learn about nutrition, and take classes on how to stay healthy. There are free resources available to help with things like formula and diapers. Some other services that the Neighborhood Centers offer are listed below. There are programs available for low income, seniors, the disabled, and even moderate income families in Travis County Texas. These programs can help with things like housing, food, and other needs.

People in need can go to food pantries, soup kitchens, and bread distribution centers to get food. There are also free clothes closet, notary services, child safety seats, and help with apply for public assistance such as food stamps or LIHEAP. Get help finding a job and managing your case.

Holiday assistance and seasonal services help people during Thanksgiving and Christmas. This includes giving out Thanksgiving baskets, helping people fill out Christmas Bureau applications, and providing income tax preparation assistance. They also hand out free Coats for Kids vouchers.

Medical care is coordinated by registered nurses and other medical professionals. This care may include everything from preventive measures to necessary treatments and surgeries. They will offer health screenings and other services to those with low incomes or who lack insurance. The assistance that is provided by the community health workers may include things such as helping to get immunizations for both children and adults, providing food assistance, checking blood pressure, referring people to doctors or community clinics as needed, and giving out medications.
