The Friendship House provides resources and relies on donations and volunteers to help the less fortunate. The goal of this program is for people from the Detroit community to help their neighbors in need by providing them with everything from food to referrals to just a listening ear.

Many volunteers choose to help with providing basic needs as it is something they can do effectively. They may hold fund raisers or food drives to collect goods for seniors and qualified low income families, especially children. There may be bags of groceries given to the homeless or people in poverty, or a hot meal served. More help with money is available, and this is often in the form of suggestions for other places to get money, like from the government.
