DeKalb County Indiana assistance programs.

Help pay heating and energy bills as well as other financial aid

CANI is now accepting applications for its Energy Assistance Program (EAP). This program provides financial assistance to residents who need help paying for their heating bills. If you need help, you can go to any of the offices in these six counties: DeKalb, Allen, LaGrange, Noble, Steuben, and Whitley.

There are some income requirements to apply for the program. For example, a one-person household cannot have an income greater than $15,315 per year.

This means that for every extra person in your family, you can add $5,220 to your income.

In order to apply, you must bring documentation of your total household gross income for the past 12 months, as well as current heating and light bills. If anyone in the household is 18 years or older and has no income, they must provide a notarized statement of how they have supported themselves for the past year. This means that you will need to provide the social security numbers for every person who lives in your household.

The Energy Assistance Program (EAP) in Indiana can help pay some of your heating bills during the winter. This program also provides fans, air conditions, or utility bill credits during summer months, depending on a family’s situation and financial condition. CANI assisted over 14,000 families with their utility and heating bills last year. Electric bills can be expensive, but there are ways to save money on your electric bill. One way to save money is to use energy-efficient appliances. Another way to save money is to use less electricity by turning off lights when you’re not using them, and unplugging electronics when you’re not using them. You can also save money on your electric bill by using a programmable thermostat to set the temperature for when you’re away from home or asleep.
