Denbigh United Christian Outreach, or THRIVE, programs.

The charity organization known as Denbigh United Christian Outreach, or Thrive Peninsula, helps people who have less money or fewer possessions than other people. The organization provides temporary assistance for families during difficult times, which may include help with housing and access to food and other necessities. Other programs like HOMEseek and Seeds of Service offer help too. They work with other groups to fight poverty by listening to the client and then referring them to additional solutions.

One major challenge is finding a place to live. Another issue related to poverty is food insecurity, or not having enough nutritious food to eat. Denbigh United Christian Outreach provides emergency rental assistance to stop evictions and disburses food from a pantry known as Soul-Ful. Denbigh United Christian Outreach Emergency Assistance helps families in need by providing free food, clothing, medical assistance, housing assistance and transportation during a crisis. The agency will not pay the full amount of a bill, and the applicant will need to pay the remainder. This program is available to people who earn a low income.

In addition to providing psychological support, THRIVE will also help with transportation. This means that if you have a job or need to go to a medical appointment, you can still go. What you will usually get is a free bus token, but sometimes you will get gasoline vouchers instead. This is part of a program that provides emergency assistance.

The CFNP program provides food and nutrition assistance to low-income residents in Newport News. The program works with medical and social service organizations to identify residents in need and provide them with assistance. Denbigh United Christian Outreach partners with different groups to try and help meet the dietary and medical needs of low income individuals and seniors living in the Newport News area.

Denbigh United also has a food pantry where people can go to get food. This is for anyone who is in a difficult or dangerous situation. A time of crisis is when people need food the most. The Weatherization program is funded through a combination of Federal Government and private utility company resources. This was designed to help people save money on their heating bills by making their homes or apartments more energy efficient.

The team looks at each property to see how energy efficient it currently is and what improvements should be made. A contractor who is approved by Denbigh United Christian Outreach is then sent a work order. The organization will then install long-lasting, high-quality weatherization techniques in the home. You may need to add more insulation to your attic, walls, floors, or heating system pipes and ducts. You may also want to use CFL bulbs.

If your heating system is not working properly, you may be able to get it repaired or replaced through weatherization. This can be expensive, so it is limited. There is no charge for this program or the work performed.

The Denbigh United Christian Outreach Community Outreach was created to help those who are disabled, low-income, or elderly and live in the county. Many people turn to others for help when they are facing a difficult situation. There is a lot of information available on services like clothes, food baskets, and other things people need for everyday life.

You can apply for public benefits when you visit the site. The Community Outreach has workers who can help clients with filling out forms for LIHEAP or the Christmas bureau. They can also offer confidential advice. It can be done between two people.

This support will be combined with Soaring to Financial Freedom, a budgeting/financial literacy class. THRIVE offers career counseling to help people identify and achieve their career goals. Career counseling can involve exploring different career options, developing a plan to achieve career goals, and providing support and guidance along the way. Any client who qualifies for income assistance will be given referrals for transportation, medications, chore services, housing, or any other needs they might have.

Home based support is also for those who are elderly. The staff at Denbigh United Christian Outreach help low-income seniors in the community with tasks such as minor home repairs, housekeeping and seasonal chores. These tasks are done by people who have been screened and are from private contractors, local schools, churches, and non-profit organizations in the community. This can only be used on a short-term basis for things like an illness, injury or recent hospital stay.

Denbigh United Christian Outreach runs a school supplies drive every year for students attending school in Newport News, Virginia. The individuals are provided with basic supplies and clothing. The items in the drive come from money donated and specifically donated items collected from local businesses, organizations, and community members.

Thrive’s Resource Connections is a referral service that can help connect you to resources in your community. The city of Newport News, Virginia provides emergency shelters and transitional housing for eligible individuals and families. If someone is about to be homeless or is in danger of being evicted, there are services to help them so they don’t end up homeless. ESG funds can help pay for case management services to help keep people in their homes.

Denbigh United Christian Outreach addresses a variety of issues that can often lead to homelessness.
