The Weatherization Assistance Program helps homeowners improve their energy efficiency and safety. The program is free for those who qualify, and many participants can see a reduction in their total utility bills of up to 30 percent.

This program is funded by the government and can be accessed by anyone in the country. Some ways to insulate your home are by adding caulking and weather stripping, replacing deteriorated doors, and insulating floors, attics, and walls. You can also repair broken window panes. All of the work is done by contractors who are highly trained and approved.

The Heating and Air Replacement Program (HARRP) is another emergency conservation and resource program. Only offered in North Carolina, when funds are available to repair or replace heating or air conditioning units. The application process for this program will be similar to the weatherization assistance program.

The school has a computer lab with internet access. The library is available to use for free most weekdays. The Durham County lab can help people with things like making a resume and searching for jobs online, as well as teaching them how to use basic computer programs like Microsoft.

Head Start is a program that helps children from low-income families get ready for school. This is a preschool program that is funded by the national and federal government and it services children under the age of 6. Their families and parents may also benefit, mostly from referrals and social services that are administered. The goal of Head Start is to give young children a good education. Staff will also help parents by providing guidance and support to establish goals that will benefit the whole family. Before and after school day care is available to children whose parents are unable to spend time with them during those hours.
