Churches and charities in Tompkins County provide free food and groceries to people in need. They provide food for people in the region from pantries and soup kitchens. The food centers provide food to people who are low income, senior citizens, disabled, and children.

There is a lot of help available. These food banks are not just located in the city, but also in the rural areas of the county. If someone can’t make it to a distribution center, then some of the charities will operate a home delivery service to feed them. This organization provides holiday meals, clothing, and hygiene items to those in need. They also refer people to SNAP food stamp application sites.

The Brooktondale Community Center is a building that has a function to provide resources and services to the local senior population. It is located at 522 Valley Road in Brooktondale, New York. The center is closed all day Monday except for the evening. We are especially interested in providing services to senior citizens.

The Ithaca Rescue Mission provides a shelter for the homeless, hygiene supplies, a soup kitchen, and food pantry. Assistance provided includes help with basic needs and case management.

The Danby Federation Church has a food pantry that is open on the fourth Monday of each month. It is open from 3pm to 7pm and anyone is welcome to come and get free food.

The Ithaca Kitchen Cupboard is available Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Other programs offered at the Salvation Army include assistance with SNAP food stamps, a thrift store with clothing, and Christmas meals and toys for children.

The Southside Community Center in Ithaca, New York is a place where people in crisis can go to get free bags of food. The food is available Monday – Friday from 4pm to 6pm.
