Help from the Fauquier County Salvation Army

The Warrenton Salvation Army helps adults, children, and infants who are struggling and/or have low incomes in Fauquier County. There are up to 15 different resources that can be used. This means that there are grants available to help with heating or cooling bills. Other programs focus on giving people material goods they need, including a thrift store, the Adopt A Child gift program, a food pantry, and even meals for pets!

The services are provided to everyone, no matter what their race, religion, or faith is. But the local center also provides services in other languages, not just English. If someone needs help but doesn’t speak English, the center can provide referrals to someone who does. The Warrenton center is open from Monday to Friday and allows self-referrals.

The Salvation Army will require a picture ID and proof of income from every member of the household. This includes a check stub from each person. You will need to provide proof of your income before you can apply for financial aid for housing or energy bills. Other programs, such as the food pantry or Blessing Bags for the Homeless, have fewer restrictions. This means that you must be able to demonstrate financial need or hardship in order to be eligible for this program.

The Salvation Army provides holiday assistance programs for those in need in Fauquier County. The Adopt a Child program provides free Christmas gifts, toys, games, or clothes to children in need. Each year, more than 200 children are helped. The location also provides food baskets for Christmas and Thanksgiving. If you need help for your kids, you can get an application at the Warrenton office. Make sure you complete it on time and include a Wish List form.

The social service center also has a Christmas stocking program for seniors. This is for people who live independently or in a nursing home in Fauquier County. Volunteers from the Salvation Army can visit seniors who may be living in the hospital.

There are only two types of financial aid programs available. There are some resources that are run by the Fauquier County Salvation Army, and there are others that are more statewide resources. This means that if you need help paying for your winter heating fuel, you will only be able to get financial assistance from the government. Window fans and cooling bill assistance may be arranged during hot summer months.

A food pantry is a place where people and animals can go to get food. The Salvation Army will help those in need by giving out boxes of groceries. This will include adults, children, the disabled, and elderly. There is also a Blessing Bags for the Homeless that may contain both food and hygiene supplies, such as razors and soap. They understand how important it is for a vulnerable individual to have a pet dog or cat. The on-site pet food ministry may sometimes have bags or canned food for a pet.

The Fauquier County Salvation Army store is open Monday to Friday from 10am to 5pm, with limited hours on Saturday. This location can sell items like furniture with fabric coverings, lightly used clothes, books, CD’s, and household items. They also sell exercise equipment, computers, DVD’s, new toys, mattresses, and holiday items.

The Salvation Army Camp Happyland for Children in Warrenton is a place where children can go after school or during the summer. This will allow the parent to drop their kid off. There will be educational programs, hot meals given out, snacks, and a caring adult present to supervise.
