Housing assistance from South Oakland Shelter.

South Oakland Shelter manages several different housing resources. The non-profit provides a wide range of services that a client may need, from Permanent Supportive Housing to Rapid Re-Housing (RRH) or placement into a shelter in Oakland County. Other services, such as counseling, are also provided.

The Homelessness Intervention Program helps families in Oakland County who are in crisis find safe and suitable housing. The team at the shelter is continuously working to support people and maintain housing. If you are eligible, you may be able to get help from a case manager.

One program, the Emergency Shelter Grants, is available to residents of Oakland County who are behind on rent or who need help with the first month’s rent deposit. The program is administered by South Oakland Shelter, and is funded by the federal government. This means that the grant will pay for one month of rent that is owed, or it will cover one month of rent going forward. This program provides a small amount of money for security deposits.

This form of aid is also part of the RHH rehousing process. Some of our key partners include the Oakland County Community and Home Improvement Division, as well as others who share our commitment to improving the quality of life for all residents in Oakland County. There may be not only funds for a security deposit, application fee or first months rent, but also ongoing support given to the tenant so they are not evicted again in the future.

Residents who earn 50% or less of the median income in the area can apply to SHIFT, or the Supportive Housing for Individuals and Families in Transition. This program is designed to help those who are not eligible for other forms of support to become self-sufficient. The South Oakland Shelter can help with things like utility bills, rent, or a deposit for a new apartment if you need it for a short time.

The homeless are a vulnerable group who need housing and supportive services. There are many resources available to help them. The client will need to take steps to resolve their challenges, but if they are successful, then South Oakland Shelter will assist. There are programs available for people who are homeless or don’t have much money.

There is a lot of need for services that help the homeless in Oakland County Michigan. South Oakland Shelter partners with different non-profit organizations to help meet these needs. They also offer solutions to prevent homelessness.

The South Oakland Shelter may offer money for security deposits as part of their rapid re-housing program. There are also types of housing designed to meet specific needs, such as permanent supportive housing, shelter, transitional homes and special needs housing. The shelter also provide other services to support homeless people such as food, employment, drug abuse and domestic violence programs, as well as  physical and mental health counseling.

There are two programs available to help people in need, they are emergency shelters and Chronic Leasing Assistance (C-LAP). These are for individuals from the community who don’t have a place to sleep for the night. Meals and other forms of support will be arranged as needed. The resources are made as the result of partnerships with churches and congregations in Oakland County. These partnerships help to ensure that the resources are of the highest quality and are designed to meet the needs of the community.

CLAP from South Oakland Shelter is for families who are chronically homeless or have a history of evictions. The Department of Housing and Urban Development provides financial assistance for it. There are government programs that provide financial assistance and other services specifically for veterans, children, and single mothers. This program can help a lot of families at the same time.

Permanent housing from South Oakland Shelter

The non-profit provides financial assistance with rent payments to hundreds of lower income individuals, families, and seniors in partnership with The US Department of Housing and Urban Development’s (HUD) Section 8 Rental Assistance Program. Many of the applicants are no longer receiving assistance from the Chronic Leasing Assistance program.

The government has agreements with some landlords that it will pay for part of the rent for low-income families who live in their properties. The tenants are responsible for following the rules set in the lease, and the landlords are responsible for taking care of the rental units.

If South Oakland Shelter enrolls a person, then the family must pay the difference between the total monthly rent and the subsidized amount. In order to qualify for public assistance, tenants must meet income requirements set by the federal government. These guidelines take into account all sources of income, including social security, public assistance, wages, and interest from savings accounts. South Oakland Shelter’s review is thorough.

Housing Authority staff inspect all housing units in Oakland County to make sure they meet quality standards set by the federal government. The standards ensure that the units are decent, safe, affordable, and sanitary. The organization will make payments to the landlord for one year on behalf of the tenant.
