If you’re having trouble with a product or service, you can talk to a customer service representative to try to resolve the issue. You and the customer service representative will discuss various payment plans and options, such as budget billing, one-time payment, automatic payment, medical hardships, and extensions. LG&E’s customer care representatives will work with people to set up payment plans that are mutually beneficial and agreeable to both parties. They will attempt to help you find the support you need.

The energy company cannot always provide what you need and may suggest other options. Other local non-profit agencies that they work with include Louisville Metro Human Services. Counselors will determine if the customer is eligible for emergency energy and utility bill assistance programs. They can also help qualified eligible persons/families by referring them to the appropriate Neighborhood Place or other social organization or programs such as LIHEAP.

The Louisville Metro Community Action Partnership also provides financial assistance to low-income families to help pay for energy costs through the Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP). Community Winterhelp is a non-profit organization that provides winter clothing and other necessities to low-income families in the Washington, D.C. area. If you are a Kentucky resident and are struggling to pay your heating bills, you may be eligible for emergency assistance through the state. This program provides weatherization services such as caulking and sealing gaps in homes, adding insulation to attics and walls, and repairing or replacing windows and doors. The Budget Payment Plan will allow customers to budget their monthly LG&E bill by paying a set amount each month. What the program does is it helps even out the spikes in heating, cooling, and utility bills that happen at different times of the year, so customers can budget more easily and keep their finances under control.

The Louisville Gas and Electric Budget Payment Plan allows customers to pay their monthly energy bills over a 12-month period. This plan level sets the amount customers need to pay each month. It is easier for customers to include your energy costs in their household budget when it is available to all customers.

The energy company will create an estimate of your energy usage for the next 12 months, based on your current energy bills and your usage from the previous 12 months. LG&E will then take the total of our estimate and find the average to determine your initial Budget Payment amount. A true up of your account means that your account will be updated once a year to make sure that it is accurate.
