If you live in Schenectady County New York and need emergency assistance, you can contact the Salvation Army for help. They can provide case management services to help you get back on your feet. The programs also provide coverage to the counties that are next to Schoharie and Montgomery. Some examples of the resources that may be offered are listed below, but there are many other programs that may be able to help.

During the fall and winter, more people need help and assistance from programs. This is assistance that is either free or low cost that is available during Thanksgiving or Christmas. One example of a Salvation Army partner organization is Meals on Wheels. They deliver hot meals to seniors and the elderly who cannot leave their homes. Traditionally, turkey is served during Thanksgiving and/or Christmas. The program is run in cooperation with the Office for the Aging in Schenectady.

Homeless shelters that are open in case of an emergency are located in the area around the capital. Booth Houses are a type of shelter that can house both women and children. They are also known by the name of Booth House. The people who were kicked out of their homes because they couldn’t pay their rent are given a place to stay that is safe and comfortable. The clients will also have access to referral services, three free meals a day, and ongoing case management to help them stay on a path to self-sufficiency and employment.

This assistance will help during and after a major disaster in the community. The Salvation Army partners with organizations both locally and nationally to best meet the needs of the community. The agency can provide personnel, officers, highly trained volunteers, and food from Emergency Disaster Mobile Canteens. Other resources that are offered include hot coffee, meals, housing, blankets, vouchers for furniture, clean-up kits, household supplies as needed, and guidance.

The goal of the clothing and feeding programs is to help poor individuals and families who are in a difficult situation. Qualified clients may receive up to several days’ worth of food or groceries. At the pantry, people can choose which food they need and take it with them. The Salvation Army provides food to those in need through food pantries. People can go to these pantries to get fresh fruit and vegetables, meat, canned goods, bread, and pasta.

In order to apply, you will need to provide proof that you have a source of income and a place of residence. Bring identification for everyone in the household, such as a driver’s license or social security card. This means that seniors living in Montgomery or Schenectady County can visit the food pantry more often than people living in other areas.

There is a breakfast and lunch program located at 222 Lafayette Street. Nobody will be turned away because of how much money they make. No one will be refused. We always need volunteers to help us run the soup kitchen for the needy. Many different groups work together to help those in need by providing food. They collect and prepare the food, then serve it to people who are homeless or otherwise don’t have enough to eat.

The Salvation Army clothing bank in Schenectady is open a few days each week. The store will offer lightly-worn clothes for all demographics, sometimes including new garments. The non-profit can help families who are struggling by giving them free back-to-school clothes, backpacks, clothes for everyday wear, uniforms, or suits for an interview. The Salvation Army is very grateful to the local individuals and families who donate gently used clothing. This allows them to offer this service to those in need.

The Christmas Toy Shop is another place where you can get help with your holiday shopping. This service is offered to hundreds of children from infancy to age 12. Christmas Food Baskets are full of delicious food and turkeys! The items offered are enough to make a complete holiday dinner. The Christmas Angel Tree Program is the last main resource. This initiative requires the support of people, organizations and local businesses in order to provide new toys or gifts for specific children in the area.
