Grand Traverse County St. Vincent de Paul provides assistance to disadvantaged residents across the county and city of Traverse to help them overcome their challenges. Although we would like to be able to offer assistance in every situation, sometimes it is not possible to do so. Possibly the individual has used up all their resources, or they don’t qualify for assistance. In these cases, the staff will direct the person to other options that are available in Grand Traverse County.
Society of Saint Vincent Grand Traverse senior programs
If you are in need of adult day health services, the volunteers can help point you in the right direction. This was created to help the elderly with their social and medical needs. This ambulatory care setting provides services under health leadership for low to moderate income adults who do not yet require 24 hour care, however, are not able to fully live an independent lifestyle. Conditions that stop this from happening can be caused by mental, physical, or social problems. The staff at the agency have been certified in CPR and First Aid. There is always a nurse on duty at the facility.
There is also part time help for caregivers who have clients that are impaired. This service is offered by Saint Vincent volunteers and other partners, such as the United Way in Grand Traverse. This means that anyone, regardless of how much money they make, can receive this type of care, and that the Adult Day Program will be paid for by Medicaid. This means that the amount you pay for services at a company is based on your economic status. A sliding fee scale means that as your income changes, so does the amount you pay for services.
Many low income seniors find Telephone Life Line Services to be the most beneficial. The federal program provides a free or discounted wireless phone service that will provide households with a free cell phone with limited voice minutes each month. Each person is only allowed one phone through the Lifeline program. This is a government program that provides discounts to eligible low-income consumers on their monthly telephone bills, as well as makes telecommunications and Internet services more affordable and accessible in rural and underserved areas.
The application process is quick and easy. A St. Vincent de Paul staff member in Grand Traverse County is available to help with the application process and submit it to the right phone company. This gives low-income clients, especially the elderly, a way to keep in touch with different support systems and to be able to reach emergency services if needed.

The Runaway and Homeless Youth Program in Grand Traverse was designed to help keep teenagers and children safe. The program works to bring people in off the street and reconcile with their families if the opportunity arises. This program provides free, confidential services to residents of the county and their families who are 21 years of age or younger.
There are many other services available for homeless youth, including crisis counseling, advocacy, prevention education, referrals to other agencies, transportation, and aftercare services. The program is available 24/7, but interested youths must call to start the process, as it is voluntary.
