If you are homeless, renting, or own property, you can get help from Homeless Prevention and Rapid Rehousing services in Boone County Missouri. and Salvation Army, provides funding to families who are struggling to keep a roof over their head. The federal government provides funding to families who are struggling to keep a roof over their head through Emergency Solution Grants and non-profit agencies such as the United Way, Rainbow House, Welcome Home Inc. and Salvation Army. This program is coordinated by others in the Columbia Missouri region.

HPRR provides many different types of assistance. There is financial assistance available in the form of grants or loans, as well as counseling services such as free mediation, legal advice, and case management. This means that every time someone asks for help, their situation is looked at individually to determine what kind of support they need. The amount of help someone can receive also depends on how much money is available, the person’s financial situation, whether they rent or are homeless, and many other factors.

Be sure to bring proof of income when you apply for rehousing or homeless prevention. In addition to the abovementioned documents, you will also need copies of your lease or mortgage; monthly rent or utility bill statements; eviction or foreclosure notices; copies of any public aid (SSI, SNAP, section 8, etc.); identification for all household members; employment details; and much more. Once the government grants have been used up, agencies such as New Horizons Community Support Services may provide short-term, lower interest rate loans. However, these loans will come with more restrictions.

This support covers a lot of different topics, like helping the client keep their current home or apartment, to becoming self-sufficient.

The Boone County Legal Services provides free mediation between tenants and landlords or homeowners/mortgage service companies. They also offer legal advice and information on local resources in Boone County as well as the state of Missouri. Their case management is effective for the homeless and low to moderate income applicants. They also provide referrals to other regional assistance programs, including section 8 from the Columbia Housing Authority. The Missouri Housing Development Commission (MHDC) offers a Section 8 Voucher program that assists low-income residents with finding affordable, yet safe, apartments to live in. The voucher program is open to all eligible low-income residents, and preference is given to those who are homeless, have a disability, or are elderly/veterans.

The main point is that homeless prevention and rapid rehousing in the larger Boone County region uses many different methods. Other organizations that may be able to help are non-profit agencies, charities, and social service providers. The solutions will be based on the applicant’s individual situation.
