The Food Pantry Shelf is a large food pantry located in Norfolk County. This pantry provides food for people in need and is one of the largest in the state. Interfaith Social Services provides food and other goods to families who cannot afford them.
Many of the food items at the Pantry Shelf are donated by members of the community. The only requirement to use Interfaith Social Services and the Pantry Shelf is that the person brings a current utility bill addressed to the head of household. This bill will prove that the person resides in a county served by Interfaith Social Services.
The Interfaith HomeSafe program provides a safe place for hundreds of families to stay either at home or in their own apartments. It provides financial assistance and homelessness prevention services to people in need. Home Safe services can help with free Budget Counseling, Money to pay Overdue Rent and/or Utilities, Information, Referral, and other forms of grants. The bills that are paid for through this program vary, but can include medical expenses such as dental work or hearing aids for seniors.
The worry of being kicked out of one’s home or having their power or heat shut off is a big problem for many families. Interfaith Social Services provides both financial aid and one-on-one case management services to help people in immediate crisis. A clothing bank is a place where you can go to get free clothes. If you can’t afford the right clothes for job interviews, it can make it harder to get a job. This can make it harder to break out of the cycle of unemployment and poverty. The Interfaith Social Services Career Closet provides free, donated professional attire to individuals who are working to break the cycle of poverty and homelessness.
Many organizations in Norfolk County that help people with social services and careers refer their clients to the Career Closet at the center. At this location, there are volunteers who work with each person individually to select the most appropriate outfits. They are able to choose from a wide variety of lightly-used clothes and accessories.
The non-profit is very thankful to all the donors who have been generous, and the agency will also encourage everyone to donate to help those who are seeking employment. They can help by donating clean, stylish clothes that are ready to wear and appropriate for a work setting. Some appropriate clothing items for work include dresses, blouses, skirts, men’s suits, dress shirts, slacks, polo shirts, ties, shoes, and khakis.
Each Clothes Closet client is also provided with a gift certificate that can be used at specific stores or even at a barber shop or salon. These options are very limited. When people take care of their personal hygiene and appearance, it often boosts their self-esteem and confidence. This is especially important for those who are looking for employment.
