The mission of the Northwestern Ohio Community Action Commission is to help low-income families by providing resources and assistance to help them break the cycle of poverty. The organization offers a variety of programs and services to help families in need, such as job training, financial education, and support with basic needs like food and housing. Our non-profit provides multiple types of short and long term assistance programs in the area. There are services that can help with money and other needs in Fulton, Henry, Defiance, Paulding, Williams, and Van Wert counties.
The North Carolina Community Action Association offers free food and shelter to low-income people, as well as assistance with energy bills. They also help families who are about to be evicted or those who are already homeless by assisting with making a rental payment or having money available for a security deposit. I will also work with a case manager to address the reasons for my difficulties.
Housing programs from NOCAC
Home repairs and modifications for the disabled or seniors can help homeowners with small repairs. This will allow the individual to stay in their homes safely. This is for families who earn a low income and meet the qualifications. The agency will decide if a loan with no interest will be given to homeowners to pay for these repairs, or if some other form of financial assistance will be used. This means that people who live in Defiance, Van Wert, or Fulton counties are covered. This housing program is funded by the Office of Housing and Community Partnerships/ODOD and the Ohio Housing Trust Fund.
Some examples of improvements that could be made are: -Replacing or repairing heating units or water heater tanks -Minor electrical repairs -Installing additional lighting in stairwells -Installing handheld showers -Installing handicap toilets -Updating bathrooms or kitchen faucets -Patching roofs
There is help available for people who need assistance paying their monthly rent or security deposit. The Northwestern Ohio Community Action Commission has several different programs that can be used to pay rent and prevent eviction. There are also programs to help the homeless obtain affordable housing. Some of the main organizations that help with homelessness are Emergency Food and Shelter, the United Way, and the Homeless Assistance Grant Program.
The amount of cash assistance paid out will depend on the applicant’s income. The agency provides financial assistance for back rent, mortgage, deposits for homeless individuals and families, and first month’s rent.
There is a place called PATH – Partnership Assistance to the Homeless where homeless people can go to get a meal and a place to stay. The city of Defiance, Ohio is located in the northwestern part of the state. It is situated along the Maumee River, which flows into Lake Erie. Defiance is the county seat of Defiance County and has a population of about 18,000 people. The center helps people who are currently homeless, need food or have severe mental disabilities. The soup kitchen will serve a free hot, nutritious meal as well as special Thanksgiving and Christmas programs. PATH also provides other assistance such as distributing food commodities from the USDA, friendship and socialization, and morning coffee and juice. This means that social workers can help you find other agencies or government programs that can help you with things like housing or food assistance.
The emergency shelter at NOCAC provides housing services for people in Defiance, Henry, Paulding, and Williams counties. A case manager will help you figure out what you need to do to get independent, permanent housing. They will work with you closely to help you achieve this goal. If you need help with things like finding a job, managing your money, getting mental health care, or getting food, transportation, or health care, there are programs that can help you.
The goal is to help a person afford a place to live. This can include help with paying for the first month’s rent, utility connections, or a security deposit. The community action agency offers ongoing case management as part of PATH.
The Home Weatherization Program is available at the non-profit Northwestern Ohio Community Action Commission. This program provides assistance to eligible low-income households in order to make their homes more energy-efficient and weather-resistant. Services provided through this program can include weather-stripping, insulation, and minor repairs. The project was funded by government grants and funds from the Ohio Department Services Agency, Office of Community Assistance.
These free weatherization activities help save energy and lower bills for income-eligible individuals living in the service area. The program provides energy-related home updates and other modifications to those who qualify. This app is for people who rent their homes, as well as for people who own their homes. The goal of NOCAC is to improve homes by making them safe, comfortable and more energy efficient. This means that people who live in places like Defiance County who need help will be given assistance.
Clients can receive new heating systems, furnaces, repairs, or replacements. Other services that contractors may offer include installing Attic, Wall and Floor insulation, sealing the home, or emergency repairs. You could save hundreds of dollars on energy bills.
There are apartments available for people with low incomes, or who only need one room. This means that the government pays a portion of the rent for these units, making them more affordable for people with low incomes. Qualified tenants will need to pay up to 30% of their monthly income for rent and energy bills. Single Room Occupancy (SRO) housing is a type of housing designed for people who are homeless or otherwise have a hard time finding and keeping housing. SRO units are typically very small, and usually only have enough space for a bed, a small desk, and a chair. Many SRO buildings also have communal bathrooms and kitchens that residents can use. As part of your stay, you will have access to case management, job training, meals, and other support.
The Coalition on Housing and Homelessness in Ohio and NOCAC offer the SSI Ohio Project, a program that helps homeless people with disabilities access Social Security benefits. This is a means of support for residents age 18 and older who may be struggling with homelessness or the threat of eviction. The Ohio Association of Second Harvest Food Banks is an important partner. The staff from these agencies help mentally ill people to get disability benefits from social security or to access other resources from the Ohio Benefits Bank.
Community Action Northwestern Ohio utility bill assistance
Utility and heating assistance is available from NOCAC. The non-profit provides financial assistance to families and individuals from all counties to help pay for high utility costs. This assistance comes from various government grants and funding sources. A key goal is to help clients keep their heat on during the winter by avoiding the disconnection of utility services. If you need help, there are many resources available in Henry, Fulton, Defiance, Williams, Van Wert, and Paulding counties in Ohio.
The Home Energy Assistance Program (HEAP) is perhaps the most important program when it comes to assistance with energy costs. It reduces the amount of money spent on cooling homes in the summer and heating them in the winter. The main part of the HEAP program provides a one-time payment to help with energy bills, while the emergency aid is for disconnection prevention.
The Ohio Department of Development, Office of Community Assistance, and the federal government all contribute to funding HEAP. A priority is for those who are elderly or disabled. Sometimes companies give vouchers to customers who don’t have to follow certain rules.
Emergency HEAP applications are processed by Community Services who are located at NOCAC. This is mainly for the winter, but there may be some grants for air conditioning bills during the summer. It helps families in Northwestern Ohio who are not currently connected to utilities, who are at risk of being disconnected, or who have less than ten days worth of fuel. If you’re having issues with your furnace or heating system, calling in a professional for help is always a good idea. However, you can also try troubleshooting the problem yourself. Checking things like the pilot light, making sure the power is turned on, and checking for blockages in the vents can often help you fix the issue without having to call in a repairman. Applicants also need to be signed up for the Percentage of Income Payment Plan Plus (PIPP Plus).
Some colleges and universities may offer financial aid during the summer semester. It will be for electric bills related to cooling, such as air conditioning. Customers may be given a free fan or air conditioner to use to help cool down.
Other programs offered by Northwestern Ohio Community Action can help with energy bills. The Bryan Good Neighbors Utility Fund helps people with their utility bills. The Emergency Food and Shelter Grant helps people with food and shelter. The Salvation Army helps people with food, shelter, and other needs.
You can find help with First Energy and Toledo Edison Electric bills by contacting your local utility company. The Home Weatherization Assistance Program provides funds to low-income customers to improve the energy efficiency of their homes. Some of these customers may be eligible for additional energy conservation and efficiency services. Other measures that American Electric Power offers are based on the weatherization model.
The two companies may offer customers the replacement of inefficient appliances or free consumer education materials in partnership with the Ohio Partners for Affordable Energy (OPAE). The Toledo Edison program’s goal is to help customers save money by reducing their overall energy usage. This program is funded by First Energy Corporation.
Additional services such as food
The Summer Food Program provides meals to children during the summer months when they are not able to receive them at school. The USDA, ODE, and local United Way agencies work together to fund this program and make sure that children in our community have access to healthy food all year round. The intent of the SFSP program is to make sure kids from families struggling financially have access to free, healthy snacks or meals during the summer. The food offered will meet the federal government nutrition guidelines and are provided to all children who qualify. The food is given out at churches, parks, and local charities.
The school readiness program offered by the Northwestern Ohio Community Action Commission is for preschool children under the age of 6. This is for families that make less money than the federal government says is the poverty line. Some of the people who Head Start is for include foster children in Ohio, the homeless, disabled or people receiving public assistance. There are sessions at a center or school, as well as Home Based and Combined services.
The Ohio Department of Education funds the Ohio Early Childhood Education, which is a local resource. There may be some difficulty in this program. It isn’t offered in very many schools. To be eligible for ECE, which is similar to Head Start, you must live in the participating school district.
The Community Action Commission in Northwestern Ohio offers affordable child care services that are based on a sliding fee scale. This means that the amount you pay for child care services will be based on your family’s income. The Commission has partnered with several child care providers in the area to offer these affordable child care services to families in need. Families in the Hancock, Williams, and Fulton County region can access low-cost or free daycare if they are working or in job training.
