St. Vincent’s Episcopal House offers a wide variety of programs, some of them in partnership with other non-profit community service agencies. The team helps people with their rent or energy bills, operates a clinic with the WelCare Initiative, and helps with educational needs from Hope Academy.
If you need money urgently, there are local agencies you can contact for help. The Episcopal House staff can help you with questions, applications and anything else you need as you try to access various Galveston County social services.
Food can be obtained from various sources of assistance. One of the key services that the organization offers is their Loaves and Fishes Food Pantry. This pantry provides non-perishable groceries to people in need, including dry goods, canned items, coffee, and nutritionally balanced snack packs. This resource is for anyone who needs help getting access to affordable, healthy food. There are a variety of non-perishable food items that can be stored for emergencies, such as canned meat and fish, bottled water, individual serving items, fruit cups, breakfast and snack bars, crackers, and peanut butter.
This organization relies on donations from the public in order to continue operating. They are always in search of people who are willing to donate money or other items to help those in need. These people help by giving money or food to people who have no other options.
St. Vincent’s Episcopal House provides food pantry services on a first-come, first-served basis. You do not need an appointment to use these services. The service, which is run in partnership with Loaves and Fishes, relies on food drives organized by churches and service organizations, donations from individuals, and the local food bank of Eastern Texas.
They offer baskets of food at Thanksgiving and Christmas to enable needy families to prepare home-cooked meals. Some organizations host Thanksgiving community feasts for people who would otherwise be alone or without a proper meal. The elderly and disabled can apply for a home-delivered holiday dinner if they are unable to attend the feast.
Medical and dental clinic services
The St. Vincent’s House Free Clinic helps Galveston County residents who can’t afford medical coverage. It’s possible that they don’t have the money to pay for medical care. This clinic will provide free primary care to women, men, immigrants, and children who might not be able to get help otherwise. The clinic will partner with UTMB – University of Texas Medical Branch to provide high-quality care.
The clinic is overseen by university faculty members who are practicing nurses, doctors, health professionals, hygienists and students from UTMB. Many people who work in medical and allied health schools generously volunteer their time to staff the clinic. An administrator is a person who manages or controls an organization or group of people. A patient coordinator is someone who helps patients by answering their questions, getting them appointments, and making sure they understand their treatment.
The main focus of St. Vincent’s Episcopal House is on detecting, preventing and managing chronic illnesses at an early stage. Some of the screenings that are offered through the Street Screenings Mobile Wellness Program include screenings for hypertension, high cholesterol, dental needs, heart disease, cancer, diabetes, HIV/AIDS, and other STDs.
Families who do not have insurance may be able to get other health care needs met as well. This could include vision screenings, routine physicals, school or women’s wellness exams, prescription assistance, diabetes care and counseling, as well as mammograms.
A mobile clinic is available for those who cannot make it to a physical location. The WelCare Initiative is a tool that brings preventative healthcare and outreach to the doorsteps of those who are underserved and uninsured. Some other clients are living in poverty. The Street Screenings program provides free health screenings for blood pressure, cholesterol, and blood sugar at various locations.
St. Vincent’s Episcopal House educational programs
One program that is available to people who are working to earn their high school diploma or GED certificate is Hope Academy. This program provides certification in two areas, and can help people to further their education and career goals. The staff and teachers at this organization help clients to better their lives, learn new skills and become productive members of the community. The Hope Academy is funded by the Baxter Trust, Bloomberg Charitable Trust, Del Papa Distributing, the state of Texas, and many private donors and contributors.
The Academy offers educational opportunities with guidance from law enforcement officers in Galveston County. We want to help students and make sure they have all the chances to do well. This is the last chance for many clients to help them improve their lives and become productive members of society.
The St. Vincent’s Episcopal House Transportation Program provides transportation assistance to low-income adults. There is also help available for senior citizens, the disabled, medical patients, and children in the Galveston area. The church provides rides to recreational activities, doctors, business-related appointments, educational programs, and cultural programming. The program partners with the Meals on Wheels agency to provide hot meals to elderly and disabled residents.
The Preschool service offers affordable, quality day care and early childhood education to two to five-year-old children from families with low to moderate incomes in Galveston County. Fees that are subsidized by St. Vincent’s Episcopal House are based on a sliding scale that is determined by the household income. This program helps children to learn about different cultures, improve their reading and writing skills, live healthier lifestyles, and feel good about themselves, in a safe and supportive environment.
The preschool offers a lot of help with the overall development. There are many different types of classes that you can take, such as science, music, computer training, Spanish, and environmental classes.
