The goal of Pro Action of Steuben and Yates is to help low income families become independent and not rely on government assistance. The community action agency provides various resources to help the community, such as food and clothing assistance, job training, and financial assistance.

Pro Action of Steuben & Yates is an employment assistance organization. This involves working with people and providing them with access to job opportunities and ongoing support. This can be done by oneself, without needing help from others. The programs and its case managers assist with job seeking, help people acquire and build job readiness skills, and provide other forms of employment support. In other words, they help people with every aspect of looking for a job and being successful in the workplace.

They help people in the community to be able to find jobs and be successful in them.

The organization CHAMP gives out grants to people in need. This money is for people who need help and don’t qualify for other government assistance programs. The people who Pro Action wants to help must be referred to them by another social service agency. The funds can be used for things like the application fee for college, textbooks, or the fee for a driver’s license.

The non-profit operates three One Stop Career Centers in Hornell, Bath and Corning New York in partnership with Workforce NY.

Careers not only learn job-specific skills, but also important soft skills such as attendance, initiative, reliability, proper dress and hygiene, and teamwork.

The Senior Employment Program helps low-income seniors find jobs. If they qualify, they will be placed into a paid job with a designated nonprofit or charity organization. So they are paid a salary, and may also receive some benefits while working. This program is run by community action agencies and helps seniors find employment.

Most participants will get paid. In general, people can earn up to $145 per week while gaining experience and learning new skills. This will make them more likely to get hired by businesses in the Finger Lakes region. The senior employment program provides services to residents of Yates, Steuben, Schuyler, Alleghany and Tioga Counties.

There is financial assistance available for people who need help finding a job. Support can help people by providing assistance and guidance during a time of change. The agency can help people with needs like gas, taxi fare, clothes or equipment for work, transportation, child care, and fees for licenses. This financial support is especially beneficial to residents when they first start a new job or when their job pays low wages.

Self-sufficiency gives low-income and working poor families the power to be independent. The Family Development Adult Services program can help people in Steuben County and the surrounding area. The program provides services such as job training and financial assistance to help people improve their lives. It may make their lives better.

The program provides support to help them set achievable goals, assess their needs and strengths, and offer referrals to access services in our community. When they qualify, individuals and families receive direct support services from a Pro Action worker who specializes in family development. Assistance may include providing information and referrals, conducting assessments, and helping families overcome barriers by building on their strengths. It may also include informal counseling.

As part of self-sufficiency, clients are provided with access to resources and financial aid and referrals to agencies that can help them. This will include help with renting, housing, employment, education, low cost transportation, food and nutrition, income and budgeting, free health care, family and community relationships, and affordable child care.

Financial Literacy provides clients with more information about reducing debt, credit, and banking services. This gives them the ability to make more informed decisions about their finances, and ultimately improve their financial situation. The community action agency often works with non-profit credit counseling agencies in the Finger Lakes area to provide this service. It will help the low income improve their financial situation by saving money, buying homes, and improving their overall wellbeing. The curriculum is designed to help people become more financially literate and understand how to use banking products and services.

The Head Start Family Program is a program that provides free early childhood education to families. This program helps children from low income and struggling families to develop the skills they need to enter pre-school or kindergarten. The program is designed to improve the children’s skills and help them grow. This service can be accessed both from home and from a center. The staff at the tax office make sure that people get all the tax credits that they have earned, including the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC).
